GT car grand prix in the heart of KL next year
The festival of super sports car racing, known as the KL City Grand Prix, on a 3.2 km circuit designed within the main streets around Kuala Lumpur will be held for three days begining August 7.
The city race track will start from KLCC and pass through Jalan P Ramlee, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Pinang and back to KLCC.
The official launch was done by Kuala Lumpur mayor Ahmad Phesal who later witnessed the signing of agreements between the organiser, GT Global Race (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL), Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM), Apex Circuit Design Ltd, KBR Project Management and Shanghai Topspeed Ltd.
“Once we understood the concept, we knew that the KL City Grand Prix was something that will have a substantial benefit to the people of Kuala Lumpur and will further enhance the profile of our wonderful city,” Ahmad Phesal told a press conference.
Earlier, GT Global Race (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd chairman Tunku Naquiyuddin Tuanku Jaafar in his speech noted that the KL City Grand Prix would be a major festival which would also include a variety of interactive and entertaining experiences for the audience and visitors from around the world.
“We shall ensure that the KL City Grand Prix complies with the standards set by the FIA (International Automobile Federation). One of the key parameters of compliance with the FIA will be the design, construction and the full scope of the race circuit’s technical aspects,” he said.
He added that the Grand Prix would be a boost to the tourism industry and also the national economy.
